THE STARS AND STRIPES: NAZI ARMIES IN ITALY SURRENDER

AFHQ, May 2–The German armies in Italy and part of Austria have surrendered–completely and unconditionally.  The long, bitter, back-breaking campaign in Italy has been crowned with victory. In the theater where the western Allies made their first breach in Adolph Hitler’s Fortress Europe, the fighting has ended with the surrender of an entire front.
