The story behind the novels

It began with my father.

My father, Jim Looby, was wounded on Mount Belvedere with the 10th Mountain Division. He rarely spoke of the war. I wanted his grandchildren to know the man they never met. At ninety-one, my mother retrieved his papers from the attic. That search became The Tenth Trail Mark, and grew into this trilogy.

Johnnie Grey is fictional. The men who inspired his story—including my father—were real.
